In anticipation of Hurricane Ike barreling through parts of Texas this weekend, Invista, maker of a range of fiber and polymer products including Stainmaster carpet, has told many of its employees in the affected areas to stay home.
Specifically, the company has ordered employees at its Houston offices to stay away at least through today. Additionally, all "non-essential personnel" were told not to report to work at the company's Orange and La Porte plants throughout the weekend.
"After the storm passes, it may be necessary for certain specialists to return to the site to assist with site assessment and pre-startup evaluations -- in that case the Emergency Notification Hotline will instruct employees to leave a message that includes their name, employee number, current location, and contact phone numbers," reads a bulletin on a special section of Invista's website set up for notifying employees about the storm.
"During this time, it is critical that site personnel stay informed on the status of the storm and site operations. Please stay diligent in monitoring this website, the emergency notification hotline, providing required information when asked, and staying in touch with your supervisor. Site personnel should plan to keep your employee gate pass accessible," the site continues.
