Mohawk is looking for dealers who are making the industry a little Greener. The flooring maker has launched its first GreenWorks Dealer of the Year Award. Nominees will be judged in areas including economic responsibility, social commitment and environmental initiative. The top winner will receive $5,000 to donate to a sustainability-based cause or effort. Additionally, up to five runners up will receive $1,000 to donate.
The award will honor dealers who are "achieving balance in a community’s economic, social, and environmental components," said Jenny Cross, Mohawk's residential senior sustainability manager. "Like a three-legged stool, all three legs have to be equal to provide the proper support.”
She noted that dealers who have implemented sustainability practices at their stores may be eligible for the award. “Many dealers I’ve talked to have had recycling programs going for years, covering carpet cushion, removed carpet, cardboard, bottles and other materials” she said. “They’ve looked carefully at their stores’ energy use to cut costs, and they’ve been active in their communities to support local causes and charities. Those are all things that make a store an ideal candidate for this award.”
Nominees will be judged by a panel of environmental professionals. They are: Dr. Sydney G. Roberts, home services program manager for Southface Energy Institute, an Atlanta-based Green building consulting firm; David Cross, founder and managing partner of Abeo Partners, a company offering "strategies and solutions" for sustainability, health and wellness; and Karen Raymer, interior designer and founder of Waldenour, an eco-design and consulting firm.
Any member of the industry can nominate a dealer for this award. Likewise, dealers can nominate themselves, Mohawk said. Nominations are being accepted now through Oct. 31. Winners will be announced in late November. For more information, visit www.mohawktoday.com.
